Satya Incense- Why does One Nag Champa Smell Different To Another

Rebecca Haynes

If you have ever purchased Satya Sai Baba Incense online you may have noticed, after purchasing your favourite nag Champa, that one box smells different to the other.

You feel cheated! Did they send you a fake incense? It smells nothing like your favourite one! Before you go accusing your favourite online seller of being a fraud, turn over the packet- check the barcode- is it different to your other one? If so, what is going on? And how do you make sure you order the right one next time?

There is a family story related to the Satya Incense company. One where the father, Late Shri K.N. Satyam Setty, the founder of  “Shrinivas Sugandhalaya” handed his company down to his sons. Each brother wanted to go in separate directions with the company, thus splitting it into two separate companies with entirely different ideas. Each company has slightly different logos and they use different scent profiles in their manufacturing process.

Satya Mumbai Logo

The eldest brother Mr. K. S. Nagraj Setty, runs the company whose head office is in Mumbai.

The logo, shown left, is a bold red and blue s shape.

If you look closely, the abbreviation (MUM) is shown on the logo indicating its head office in Mumbai

On the other hand, the other Satya company is run by another brother.

Satya BNG logo

K.S. Balakrishna Setty, runs the company whose head office is in Bengaluru.

The Logo is still red and blue, however it is more of a calligraphy s shape.

If you look closely, the abbreviation (BNG) is shown on the logo indicating its head office in Bengaluru

How Can You Easily Tell The Difference?

Even though the boxes are very similar, there are noticeable differences between them.

Look for the logo- As shown above, the logo is bold on the Mumbai Satya and more calligraphy  style on the Bengaluru Satya.

Check the barcode- If you have a favourite box, check that the apn/barcode is the same. If the numbers differ- the product will be different.

Check the location of the head office (not the manufacturing factory)- The Satya (MUM) has its head office in Mumbai (however it does have factories in Bengaluru. Satya (BNG) has its head office in Bengaluru.

So next time you think you are buying your favourite Satya incense or perfume oil, make sure you check the logo, barcode and location of manufacture to ensure that it is indeed the same scent that you love!

Which Satya Incense Is Better?

If you have read any of our other blog posts, you probably already know the answer to this.

In my opinion, there is no better! If you love earthy scents, I would suggest that you try the Satya incense from the head office in Bengaluru (BNG). If you prefer the sweeter incense, you will probably prefer the incense from the head office in Mumbai (MUM). At the end of the day, if you have never tried the Satya incense you are probably better off trying a couple of different ones- you may find that you prefer the Nag Champa from one and the Dragon's blood incense from the other. Just like perfumes, incense is a very personal preference and jus because it suits one person's tastes, doesn't mean that you will like it!
